MINUTES

November 1, 2011

Our meeting was held at the Extension Center.  The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by President Linda Arment.  There were 22 members present.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:  Minutes from October were made available to members via the website and e-mail.  A motion was M/S/C to accept the minutes.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The bank balance as of 10/31/2011 is $4,050.33.  Donna was not able to attend.  She has been working on the Habitat for Humanity (build 10 houses in 10 days) project.  A motion was M/S/C to accept the report.

OLD BUSINESS:

FESTIVAL OF WREATHS: Donna Carr has finished the wreath for Crowder’s fundraiser and has delivered it to Crowder.  The cost of the autumn/fall theme wreath was $63.43. The staff at the Foundation office commented on how beautiful it looked. The 9th Annual Festival of Wreaths is November 15th at 5:00PM.  Live auction begins at 6:30PM.

CROWDER SCHOLARSHIP: The scholarship committee would like to name the scholarship in memory of Matt Rowe and Jerry Christian.  Matt Rowe was a member of the Extension Council and passed away unexpectedly at the age of 24 and Jerry Christian was a former Master Gardener for many years and is truly missed by all that knew him.  The committee reviewed both candidates and recommended ‘The Christian/Rowe Scholarship’  be awarded to Hayley Etter and Sarah Clevenger.  A motion was M/S/C to award a scholarship to both applicants.  Beth will send a formal acknowledgement letter to the recipients and an invitation to the Christmas dinner.

GRADUATION 2011: The Fall Class of 2011 has graduated and we welcome all the new Master Gardeners.  It was wonderful to see some new members at the meeting and at the planting of the Rain Garden.

RAIN GARDENS: Ron Hoyez was approached by the staff at the Extension office in Neosho to allow some additional annuals to the original Rain Garden design next spring.  This issue will be decided when Spring is near and plants are to be purchased.  A Rain Garden in Pineville was planted with the 5th grade students, with the help of our Master Gardeners Gordon Spencer, Beverly  Resendiz and Donna Hobbs.

NEWTON COUNTY FARM FAMILY 2011: Master Gardeners John and Sheila Littlefield of Diamond, along with their family, were honored at a reception on October 30 at the Extension Center as Newton County’s Farm Bureau farm family for 2011.  Their contributions to the community and youth were recognized and State Representative Bill Reiboldt presented the family with a resolution.

NEW BUSINESS:

WEBSITE: Don McBride, our webmaster, reported that our Master Gardener website is at capacity for bandwidth which means our free website with the capacity of 1 GB is at its maximum, noting that pictures are taking up a lot of space.  After discussing different options a motion was made to purchase a mini premium package for 3 GB a month at $35.35 a year.  The motion was M/S/C to accept.

EXTENSION COUNCIL: The Extension Council is still looking for new members.  If interested please contact Ron Hoyez.
