MINUTES
December 6, 2011
Annual Christmas Dinner

Our dinner was held at 6:30 pm at the Williams Ag Building at Crowder College. A big thanks
to Bill Andrews for cooking the delicious turkey, gravy, and green beans. The meeting was
called to order at 7:40 pm by President Linda Arment who welcomed all members. There were
25 members and 19 guests in attendance.

Our scholarship recipients, Hayley Etter and Sarah Clevenger, introduced themselves to us.
They thanked the club for honoring them and shared how much it meant them. Their instructor,
Tracy Allman, and their families joined us for the occasion. Certificates were presented to
the recipients in honor of the Christian/Rowe Scholarship. They also gave attendees a tour of
Crowder’s greenhouse.

John Hobbs welcomed Jodie Pennington, the Small Ruminant Specialist for Newton County.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Minutes were e-mailed to members and posted on the website.
Linda Arment questioned if there were any corrections or additions. A motion was M/S/C to
approve November’s minutes.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The bank balance as of December 5, 2011 was $4,050.50, excluding
outstanding receipts. A motion was M/S/C to accept the report.

OLD BUSINESS:
FESTIVAL OF WREATHS: Crowder’s 9th Annual Festival of Wreaths was held on November
15, 2011 and raised $55,018.50 for Crowder’s Foundation Scholarship Fund. Thanks to Donna
Carr for the beautiful wreath from Master Gardeners created for the auction.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Nominations were presented and voted on and a presentation will be
made in February.

SERVICE HOURS: Reporting forms and totals were submitted at the meeting to be included in
the 2011 reporting year. We look forward to a summary of this year’s hours.

GARDENING SEMINAR: Discussion about hosting an upcoming seminar in 2012 was opened
but tabled until a later date.

NEW BUSINESS:
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Gordon Spencer, Lynn Fleshman, Donna Hobbs, and Sue
Ludiker presented their nominations for the 2012 officers. A motion was M/S/C to accept
Gordon Spencer as the 2012 President, Jutta McCormick as Vice-President, Lynn Fleshman as
Secretary, and Sherry McBride as Treasurer.

Special recognition was given to MGer, Sharon Lambert, for her efforts in landscaping all 7
Habitat for Humanity homes in Joplin. These homes were built in 7 days as part of a tornado
restoration project. Thanks for all the hours you donated, Sharon. Send a note

Outgoing president, Linda Arment, presented the Club’s Garden Angel and gavel to incoming
president, Gordon Spencer. Thanks for your service, Linda.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
There will be no members’ meeting in January. Officers will be meeting with John Hobbs to
plan the 2012 year. If you have any suggestions for topics or speakers that you would like to
see in the upcoming year, email Gordon. This is your time to speak up if you would like to see
changes also.

NEXT MEETING: February 7, 2012 at the Extension Center in Neosho

11th ANNUAL SPRING SEMINAR-March 3, 2012 “Lessons Learned in the Garden”
UMKC Student Union- Library Kansas City, MO. Join the MGers of Greater KC for the
region’s largest and most affordable annual gathering of gardeners to learn, grow and get
inspired.

A motion was M/S/C to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 pm.
