MINUTES
March 6, 2012
The March meeting of the Hill ‘N Hollow Master Gardeners was held at 6:30 PM at
the Newton County Extension Center on Crowder Campus in Neosho. The meeting
was called to order at 6:35 PM by President Gordon Spencer. There were 33
members present.
SPEAKER: Galen Shadwick from the Well Fed Neighbor Alliance was our guest
speaker. He covered a broad range of interesting topics, including bioregionalism,
permaculture, and financial independence through agricultural independence.
Galen’s knowledge and passion about his subjects was evident and admirable.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Minutes were e-mailed to members and posted on the
website. A motion was M/S/C to approve February’s minutes.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The bank balance as of March 6, 2012 was $2,87029. A
motion was M/S/C to accept the report.
OLD BUSINESS
None
NEW BUSINESS
RAIN GARDEN: Ron Hoyez made a motion for up to $300 to be allotted for
purchasing plants and other supplies for the rain garden outside the Extension
Office. This would include annuals, perennials, grass seed, and mulch. The
motion was seconded and carried.
HOSTAS: All 100 hostas for the annual plant sale have arrived and have been
distributed to club members.
ROSE & VEGETABLE GARDENING CLINIC: Ron Hoyez reminded us that the clinic
taking place at his residence on Saturday, March 31, is open to the public.
FAUCETT GREENHOUSE: A tour of the Faucett Greenhouse was discussed. Gary
Faucett will be the guest speaker at the April meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
COFFEE WITH CARVER: The next Coffee with Carver event on March 15 at 10 AM
will include a victory garden presentation.
ROSE SOCIETY MEETING: Ron Hoyez let us know that he would be the guest
speaker at the Rose Society’s March 17 meeting at the Brentwood Library in
Springfield. The meeting starts at 10 AM.
NEOSHO FISH HATCHERY OPEN HOUSE: An Open House is scheduled for April 15
from 9AM–2PM at the Neosho Fish Hatchery. In the past, Master Gardeners have
set up a booth at this event.
NEXT MEETING: April 3, 2012, at the Gary Faucett residence, 898 Baxter Street,
Neosho, MO.
A motion was M/S/C to adjourn the meeting at 6:52 PM.
