MoGarden Classes Begin March 21 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The annual MoGarden series of seven classes begin at 6 p.m. starting Monday, March 21, at St John’s C. H. “Chub” O’Reilly Cancer Center (2nd floor auditorium) located at 2055 South Fremont in Springfield.

 This popular series features 14 gardening topics taught by trained Master Gardeners, or University of Missouri Extension staff, over the course of seven weeks.

 A registration fee of $95 per person (or $145 per couple) is required prior to the class and attendees who attend all seven sessions will receive a copy of the “Grounds for Gardening” handbook. Single date registration is also available for $20 per class.

 The scheduled class dates and topics are as follows:

  •  Monday, March 21: “Healthy Soil Yields Healthy Plants” and “Environmentally Sound Gardening.”
  •  Monday, March 28: “Assess Your Landscape” and “Benefit from Herbs in Your Garden.”
  •  Tuesday, April 5: “Intimidated by Pruning?” and “Find the Ideal Tree.”
  •  Monday, April 11: “Create an Inspired Kitchen Garden” and “Grow Your Own Fruit.”
  •  Monday, April 18: “Enjoy Flowers Year Round” and “Movable Gardens.”
  •  Monday, April 25: “Tips for a Beautiful Lawn” and “Preserve Your Harvest.”
  •  Monday, May 2: “Common Garden Insects & Plant Diseases, What Can You Do?” and  “Rose Gardens Made Simple.”

 “This is always a popular program because of the diverse subjects covered and the excellent teachers who conduct the programs,” said Patrick Byers, horticulture specialist with University of Missouri Extension.
